I was born and brought up in Northern Ireland. I trained as a dentist and worked for six years in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, then specialised in Orthodontics. As a member of my university’s Air Squadron, the RAF taught me how to fly an aeroplane. Later, having moved to London, I joined the TA, where the army taught me how to jump out of one.

I underwent my specialist training first in London then Oxford, before becoming an NHS consultant in Northamptonshire where I still live.

I have a long-standing interest in twentieth century military history and have travelled extensively through northern Europe as well as South Africa, visiting battlefields, cemeteries, and memorials, often by bike and usually with my long-suffering wife.

The Lines We Cross is my first novel, but I have co-authored numerous scientific publications as well as nine Masters theses, all hopefully considered as non-fiction!

I enjoy outdoor activities, particularly cycling. I am currently riding the Western Front Way on a steel bicycle I built myself from scratch. What could possibly go wrong?

I am currently working on the sequel to The Lines We Cross, as well as a travel book.
